Legendary music producer Bob Ezrin once told us that if you compose using your instrument, your composition will be limited by your technique, and that we should therefore endeavour to push ourselves to write music without an instrument at hand. Free from the constraints of guitar, mandolin or piano, Catherine proved that advice, conceiving this soaring ballad fully in her imagination while she was out in the park, then sharing her ideas for the string orchestra with Steve Hunter by humming the lines as we sat around the kitchen table.
